Understanding Custom Orthotics and it's Benefits

Do I need Custom Orthotics?

Custom orthotics are specialised insoles that are designed to support the foot, correct biomechanical foot issues, accommodate specific foot types. They are also used to offload pressure areas.

Custom orthotics, which are tailored to individual needs, can address a variety of concerns, including:

  • Heel pain / plantar fasciitis
  • Flat feet
  • High arched feet
  • Bunions
  • Achilles pain
  • Offloading pressure areas that cause corns, callus or wounds
  • Knee pain
  • Back pain

Following an in-depth assessment, your podiatrist will take a foam cast of your feet. This information will be sent to the medical laboratory we collaborate with, along with your prescription, to craft custom orthotics that will be precisely tailored to address your foot condition.

Depending on the type of custom orthotic prescribed and the style of your footwear, you can transfer custom orthotics between different shoes.

Our patients can benefit from our state-of-the-art pressure analysis system known called GaitScan™. This advanced technology generates computerised images that illustrate the pressure distribution across the soles of your feet, aiding us in the identification and resolution of issues.

Gait analysis will reveal any imbalances in pressure distribution, whether it's an excess or deficiency in specific areas during your stride. It can indicate if your feet exhibit pronation or supination (excessive pressure on the outside edge). Additionally, the analysis will ascertain whether there are misalignments in your feet and ankles and if there's any asymmetrical movement.

With years of expertise and a patient-centred philosophy, we have the capability to enhance your mobility, allowing you to say goodbye to discomfort during your daily activities!
